About the Artist

Maysaloun Faraj

Maysaloun Faraj (b.1955, Los Angeles) is a London-based Iraqi painter, ceramist, and sculptor with a BSc in Architecture. Her art, informed by an architectural sensibility, fuses Eastern and Western influences, exploring spirituality, geometry, colour, and memory. Drawing on themes of homeland, harmony, and human transience, her practice resonates as both personal and universal, rooted in tradition yet embracing modernity.

A leading figure in modern Iraqi art, Faraj curated the groundbreaking exhibition Strokes of Genius: Contemporary Iraqi Art (2000–2003), co-founded Aya Gallery to champion Arab artists, and has contributed widely to the international discourse on Middle Eastern art. Her work is represented in major public and private collections worldwide, including the British Museum, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum for Women in the Arts, Barjeel Art Foundation, and Al-Mansouria Foundation. She continues to live and work in London, where she has been based since 1982.
