Didion

BY Karimah Hassan
€6.350
Sweet Nothings captures fleeting, intimate glimpses of New York life—moments sketched from memory and neighborhood people-watching, now immortalized across three vibrant canvases. Created during her winter residency, the series is a homecoming to the Lower East Side, where she first found her footing as an artist in a Ludlow Street studio. From late-night studio sessions to coffee-fueled conversations with nomadic creatives, Sweet Nothings reflects the energy of a city that shaped her. Each piece distills the beauty of everyday encounters—the kind that linger long after they’ve passed.

Karimah Hassan is an internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist whose work fuses painting, poetry, and performance to explore spirituality, consciousness, and the transformative power of art. With a rich heritage rooted in Wales, Yemen, and Bangladesh, Karimah’s practice is deeply inspired by her Islamic faith and the themes of migration, healing, and mysticism. Her artistry bridges cultural narratives, creating profound connections between tradition and contemporary expression. Karimah’s innovative approach to art centers on community engagement, bringing people together through immersive showcases that blend live painting, spoken word, open mic sessions, and music performances. These curated events serve as spaces for collective understanding, healing, and celebration, where the boundaries between artist, subject, and audience dissolve into shared experiences.

It culminated in a published book and a permanent public exhibition at King’s Cross, London. Karimah’s work has also been celebrated in high-profile exhibitions, including Her-Story at Maddox Gallery (2020), her debut solo show at Unit 31, London, a solo exhibition at Sarabande Foundation (2022), and an artist residency at The Standard NYC (2022).

Karimah’s current projects reflect her evolving ambition to redefine the role of art in modern culture.
